When I’m asked about a secret at a Football Club, it probably lands here.
Who’s at the Club?
Who’s delivering?
Who’s communicating with your players, families, and the other different stakeholders?
Once these are answered, the next step is to ask the most important questions:
. Do they embody the Values of the Club?
. Are they the people that will make your Club reach the desired point you are establishing?
. Would you trust them, if you weren’t there?
. Would you buy from them?
A long time ago I read the biography of Sir Alex Ferguson, the mythical Manager of Manchester United FC. At a certain point he stated that a Football Player makes 3 questions when he or she looking at a Football Coach:
. Can the Coach make me a better Player?
. Can the Coach make us win?
. Is the Coach loyal?
According to Sir Alex Ferguson, if the answer is “YES” to all of them, the Coach just “won” the Player’s trust and full commitment.
The problem starts when there’s one or more “NO’s”!
Just as Sir Alex Ferguson, you must look at your team and make the same kind of questions.
Is simple.
Another important that most of Business Owners establish as crucial is the need to act fast.
The slowest you move, the more time you’re allowing others to get ahead of you.
“Hire slow, fire fast” – they say, as cruel and cold as it sounds.
The more you allow the “rotten apple” to stay, the deeper and deeper the wounds become, and the likelihood of that message spreading gets higher and higher.
It’s hard, it’s challenging.
Although, I like to take an approach that involves first and foremost – one that allows others to know me and my boundaries, expectations, work ethic and demands.
However, in a World that is more and more Global and taking the different contexts into account, many times merged at one single space, it get’s extra-challenging to act different based on “good-faith”, waiting for time to take their decisions.
Here, again, there’s no right answer.
But there are some Guidelines.
If they aren’t connected to you, your Club and the Objectives set – they are OUT.
Or, in contrary, you will be questioned, because you won’t achieve it all alone.
Hard tasks ahead, but that’s your job to do it, your responsibility.
