Today, I write with some sadness.
José Mourinho was more than a winner in the of Football Coaches environment, or a revolutionary in Training Methodology Worldwide, or specifically in Portugal and among all the young people who realised through him, Mourinho himself, that the path they wanted to follow was to become Football Coaches.
“José Mourinho was, and is, the inspiration for many.”
Football feeds on the passion of many and some, with more fortune, knowledge and opportunities than others, manage to make their professional life dedicated exclusively to Football. Football supports thousands of people, from Players, Coaches, Physiotherapists, Doctors, Scouts, Analysts, Physiologists, Physical Trainers, Directors, Agents, Sports Marketing, Trainers, Commentators and Sports Journalists, TV Channels, Newspapers, etc.
We’re talking about a lot of people!
But only a few inspire us. Those are very few.
And José Mourinho was, and still is, the inspiration for many.
I have written about this before, but (once again) I need to reiterate that José Mourinho has been lacking consistency and the ability to make better decisions in his professional career. I cannot understand why a coach like José Mourinho, with a winning past in every League he has been in, capable of being Champion in England, Italy and Spain, in top Clubs like Real Madrid FC, Chelsea FC, Manchester United FC and FC Internazionale, and of winning 2 Champions Leagues, decides to coach Tottenham Hotspur? And then AS Roma?
I don’t get it!
With all due respect to all Clubs and Coaches, José Mourinho is an European Champion 2 times and has been National Champion multiple times in different countries and contexts. Deciding to continue his coaching career at Clubs where it will be difficult to become Champion (whether for historical reasons or lack of investment capacity) is not at all consistent with the history of achievements of the Portuguese Coach.
“But Mourinho outside the Big-5, in a completely marginal League? I don’ tunderstand!
I repeat the question: if José Mourinho (winner of 28 titles) cannot find better choices, who will?”
Perhaps, there’s an inability to be better advised, inability to stay put and wait for a better opportunity? Inability to better adapt to different styles, teams and players? Inability to choose his Technical Team better? I don’t know, honestly.
But Mourinho outside the Big-5, in a completely marginal League?
I don’t understand!
I repeat the question: if José Mourinho (winner of 28 titles) cannot find better choices, who will?
I can only hope that the idol of an entire generation of Coaches that followed (myself included) can climb the steps again that I believe he deserves.
Until then, good luck for this new adventure, Mister!
